Happily Ever After

This was her big day.
The day she’d been dreaming of ever since she was a little girl.
She’d have the perfect wedding.
The perfect dress, the perfect day, the perfect guests, and most of all: the perfect groom.

It had all fallen into place.
They had met a few years back and it had been love at first sight.
Their love was so intense and they spend so much time together that people told them it could never last.
They said that this love was too good to be true.

But still, they made it last.
They made it.
They showed the world that fairytales do exist, and that people can live happily ever after.

Today was yet another chapter in their love.
Their wedding day.

Her hair was done beautifully, her make up was enchanting.
She looked like a true fairytale princess.

He had proposed to her on a romantic evening out.
It was just like in the movies.
They had the most romantic dinner and were going to end the evening with a dessert.
When all of a sudden the waiter came with two champagne glasses.
In hers, there was a beautiful golden ring.
With a big but elegant diamond on it.

As soon as she noticed the ring he got off his seat and kneeled next to her.
“Aleera… ever since we met I fell in love with you.
And I haven’t stopped falling since.
We’ve been through so much, good and bad times.
We’ve had it rough.
We had people being against us.
Against our love.
But we made it nonetheless.
I love you more and more with every day.
So therefore I need to ask you this very important question: would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”

She had been speechless for a few seconds.
Before stuttering “yes! of course!” and falling into his arms.

And now here they were, six months later.
Today, she’d marry her one true love.

As she walked down the isle while the music was playing
she saw him standing there.
He looked so heartbreaking beautiful.
As he turned around, her heart skipped a beat.

Then everything went by way too fast for her, but she enjoyed every moment of it.
They said there vows and then came that wonderful moment.
“Then I pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride”
As he leaned in to give her the best kiss she ever had.
It was pure magic.

After the kiss, while she was still trying to catch her breath he leaned in and whispered in her ear.
“And they lived happily ever after…”

Abundant Love

She was in her early twenties, he was halfway.
Their life ahead of them.
Together they could face the greatest challenges, as long as they’d have each other.
He wanted to offer her home, an offer she gladly accepted.
They’d be spending the rest of their lives together.
Then life got real.
He lost his job, which forced her to quit her studies so she could find a job, if they wanted to keep their home.
Their home was a tiny apartment, barely fit for two.
To them, it was home. It was more than enough.
The bills kept coming, they couldn’t pay them anymore.
One day, as she came home, she found him in the kitchen, his fingers buried in her hair.
His face buried in his hands.
She could see that he’d been sitting there for quite a while.
Carefully, she came closer.
He had been crying.
She asked what was wrong, he just pointed towards the kitchen table, which was filled with papers.
She looked at them.
Bills. The usual bills that they couldn’t pay anymore.
They had lost their electricity already a week ago, but they made it rather cosy in the house by using candles and a warm open fire in the fireplace for warmth.
They had made the best of it, even when they lost their warm water.
“So? We’re used to this bills my love, why are you so sad?”
“Because that’s not all of it..” he softly said, handing her another letter.
They would get evicted from their apartment because they hadn’t payed rent for the past three months.
The letter said that the eviction would happen on the 14th of February, Valentine’s Day.
Today was the 13th.
She sat down.
“This time it’s for real. Game over for us. I wanted to give you such a beautiful life puddin’, now it’s all lost.. where will we sleep? What will we eat? Where will we live?..”
He softly spoke as he buried his face even deeper in his hands.
She didn’t know what to say for a minute.
Then she spoke, confidently.
“We endure love, just like we always did. And we make the best of what we have this last evening. We enjoy what we have as long as we still have it.”
She went to the living room and started a fire.
She put on some soft music and took him by the hand.
And she danced with him.
There they were, poor, without any money left, about to get evicted from the only home they both had ever known, not having a clue what they’d do next.
And they were dancing.
Dancing their troubles away, even just for a minute.
He held her tight, determined to never let go of her again.
She was his one true treasure.
She held him close, her one hand stroking his back while her other was holding his.
She whispered in his ear:
“As long as I’m with you, I know I’ll always be happy.
For as long as I have you, I don’t care where we live. With you, I’d even live in a cardboard box. Your love, this, us , that’s all I need to be happy. Truly happy.”
She could feel his salt tears roll down his cheek as he lovingly kissed her forehead.
He knew she was right.
They could take it, as long as they were together.
They could take it.
They might be poor in money, but rich in love.

Coming Soon

Hey people, I just wanted to let you guys know that I just finished yet another short story (not like the other short story with the different chapters though, shorter). It is one of the texts I’m going to send to the writing contest I’ve been talking about lately.
And I’ll upload it soon, so that’s the good news.
Bad news -well..bad..- is that it’s written in Dutch, my mother tongue. Now , for the Belgian visitors, that’s no problem, but since I’ve got viewers from all over the world right now (USA, United Kingdom, Indonesia, India, Canada, … ) I thought it ‘d be a better idea to translate the text into English again myself. Just like I did with the text “desire”.
So don’t worry, since my exams are over now -yay!- I’ll have time to work on it, so I can upload it soon.
Stay tuned!
